Your coffee’s flavor is entirely based on where your coffee beans are grown

Who doesn't love a good cup of coffee? But did you know it's where your coffee beans are grown that gives your coffee it's flavors?

Do you know where your coffee beans were grown?

That first cup of coffee in the morning is one of the most magical things on the planet.  Hot, fresh coffee just hits your taste buds differently in the morning!  Have you ever thought about the flavors you taste as you take your first sip?  For example, are they fruity and floral? Or in contrast, are the flavors more earthy, with chocolate and caramel flavors?

If you’re one to put creamer and sugar in your coffee, then the flavors may be a little more difficult to taste.  But if you like to drink your coffee black, then you may be interested to learn that it’s where your coffee beans were grown that give them their flavor!

Memphian Charles Billings is one half of Dr. Bean’s Coffee and Tea Emporium, so he knows a lot about coffee.  Coffee growing in general is very much a science.  As he tells us in the video above, a bean’s flavor is based on factors like climate, elevation, and even soil composition.  For example, beans grown in the humid jungles of South America (countries like Columbia, Ecuador, Brazil) are going to taste much different than the beans grown in the arid deserts of Africa (countries like Ehtiopia, Kenya, Burundi.)  Those factors are important in providing a coffee bean’s flavor, but there’s a lot more that goes into it, such as farming, harvesting, and bean washing methods.

Coffee is grown in a belt

Coffee beans are grown in an area around the world called the Bean Belt, an area around the world just North and South of the equator, in between the Tropics of Capricorn and Cancer.  These countries have all the factors needed to grow great coffee, but once again, each country and region will produce its own unique flavor.  Likewise with wine, the taste of coffee beans tend to reflect the regions in which they were grown.
