This website helps you virtually tip service industry workers in your area

A new website is making it easier for you to support local service industry workers who may be out of a job right now due to the COVID-19 pandemic. And the best part is, you can help from the comfort of your home…where the CDC says you should be, by the way!

Tip the Industry is a volunteer-organized website that randomly generates a service worker in your area who could use some extra “tips” right now. The idea behind the tip is that anytime you mix up a craft cocktail or cook a delicious dinner at home, you can “tip” someone in your area who you normally would pay for those services.

All you have to do is go to the website, find your state, and click on the city/county that you want to support. The website will randomly generate a person in that area and show you their name, where they work, and a link to their Venmo/Cash App or both. You can tip any amount and if you want to tip someone else, too — just hit refresh and you should get a new person to support.

Note: Not all workers have been individually vetted by ServiceIndustry.tips. All data is managed by local volunteers in each city. Refresh this page to see a new, randomly selected worker. To report a problem, or if you can help with data management in your city, please email a local volunteer admin of ServiceIndustry.tips.

On the flip side, if you’re someone who works in the service industry and has been laid off or had hours reduced due to COVID-19, you can apply to be accepted for the tip program. Click here to get started with your Google account.
