Surely you’ve found yourself clicking video after video, going further and further down the amazing rabbit-hole known as TED Talks, as you struggle, stretch, and saturate your brain with ‘ideas worth spreading’. Well, this Saturday, May 18th TEDxCincinnati brings their own local, independently organized, cranium cracking event to Memorial Hall in Over-the-Rhine, downtown. At a TEDx event (where x = independently organized), TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group.
TED is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). It all began in 1984 as a conference where technology, entertainment and design converged, and today covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues — in more than 100 languages. Meanwhile, independently run TEDx events, like the one hosted here in Cincinnati by TEDxCincinnati, help share ideas in communities around the world. Today, TED is best thought of as a global community. It’s a community welcoming people from every discipline and culture who seek a deeper understanding of the world.
