While you’re waiting in that long Popeyes drive-thru line for its popular fried chicken sandwich, you can take a moment to learn more about the fast food chain’s humble beginnings.
The Southern Food and Beverage Museum (SoFAB) released a virtual video tour of its Popeyes and Al Copeland Special Collection exhibits. The video offers a bite-sized learning experience while the museum is closed due to COVID-19.
The museum says the Popeyes and Copeland’s special collections are two of its most popular exhibits. This virtual tour allows you to see some of the memorabilia, artifacts, and pictures from the collection.
Narrated by Southern Food & Beverage Museum president Brent Rosen, the tour showcases successful local entrepreneur Copeland, who founded the Popeyes fast food chain along with many other restaurant concepts that still have an impact on the industry today.
Copeland’s dream started from humble beginnings and brought the flavors and spices of New Orleans to the rest of the world. Nearly 50 years later, Popeyes’ crunchy-battered chicken still hasn’t lost its flavor.
The fast food giant still lands in major headlines — most recently, when Popeyes launched its insanely popular chicken sandwich in 2018. The viral sensation quickly sparked social media debates around fast food chicken sandwiches and sold out in just two weeks.

In coming weeks, SoFAB will offer digital cooking classes and other digital videos on the website, according to a letter from Rosen.
During this pandemic, SoFAB will send out interesting recipes as part of its digital content offerings. The museum will also share instructional videos geared towards children via its Facebook page so kids can have a hands-on learning experience in nutritional literacy while at home from school.
