It’s the season of autumn leaves, scary movies and costumes. Of course, you can’t forget the importance of candy during this time of year, too. A recent study released by Bid On Equipment examined the most popular Halloween candy in every state.
According to the study, the most popular candy in Ohio is Mars chocolate bars!
The study shows that Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups are the most popular Halloween treats in 12 states. Airheads, Nerds, SweeTarts and Gummy Worms are the least popular.
People with children spend on average $35.01 on Halloween candy. That’s $10 more than the national average.

Survey results also show that 81% of people prefer to hand out candy versus 12% that just leave a bowl out on the porch. The ideal hours for trick-or-treating are between 6:00PM – 9:00PM, and children age out of trick-or-treating at age 15.
Finally, an answer to the burning question of the season: Should Halloween be moved to the last Saturday of October? Over half of the respondents say “yes,” with 52% voting in favor and 48% voting “no.”

The study comes from a survey performed on September 10, 2019. Bid on Equipment admins surveyed 2,004 people living in residential neighborhoods. Also, they used the Google AdWords platform to analyze search volume trends for more than 100 different types of candy. They completed this over the period of September 2018 to October 2018 in all 50 states and the 20 largest cities in the country.
