The Ohio Challenge Balloon Festival is about to take flight

More than twenty hot air balloons, fireworks, demonstration skydivers, a car show, festival food and drinks, music, carnival rides, and biplane rides are all in store this year at The 2019 Ohio Challenge Balloon Festival in Middletown, OH.

The annual event kicks off on Friday, July 19 from 4PM – 10:30PM, and then continues on Saturday, July 20 from 4PM – 10:30PM.

Don’t miss the main attraction! Weather permitting, a mass balloon launch will take place both Friday and Saturday evenings, during which more than twenty hot air balloons will lift off from Smith Park, filling the sky with… animals?

Well, at least partially! These specialty balloons, Owlbert Eyenstein, Naptuno, and Polar Bear will all be seen taking to the air above Middletown, weather permitting. Speaking of “weather permitting”, you’ll hear this term quite often at the event. Conditions have to be just right in order for balloon pilots to lift off, and the event’s emcee will keep everyone updated as the night goes on. Fingers crossed for calm air!

In addition to the mass balloon launch, there will also be a mass balloon glow once the pilots land and return to Smith Park! Over the PA you’ll hear “3… 2… 1… GLOW!!!” in unison with the whole crowd, and then behold a sight like no other as all of the balloons glow at once!

It’s one of those things in life that you just have to experience in order to understand.

If you don’t happen see balloons when you look up, you’ll certainly see something else! The incredibly talented demo-jumpers of Team Fastrax will be skydiving into the park with streamers, American Flags, and possibly pyrotechnics!

There is something here for everyone to enjoy. You won’t want to miss this show, so mark it on your calendar!
