Target will begin selling a line of adaptable costumes this month, making it easier for kids in wheelchairs or with sensory issues to become princesses, pirates and unicorns.
Of the four available costumes, two come with covers designed to attach to each side of a wheelchair. The covers form a princess carriage or a pirate ship. The pirate ship includes covers for the wheels painted to look like ocean waves.
The wheelchair covers will sell for about $45; matching costumes for the child to wear are about $25. The costumes will be on sale Aug. 22.
The other two costumes in the collection include a shark costume for kids with sensory issues. The description says, it “features an allover plush construction for a soft and cozy feel, and it has flat seams with no tags for a sensory-friendly design.” The fourth costume of a unicorn was designed for children with sensory issues but also includes a pocket for “convenient abdominal access” for children who might require it. Those will sell for about $30.
