Oktoberfest Zinzinnati, presented by Amazon and Samuel Adams and produced by the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber, will begin expanded hours in 2019, opening Friday, September 20 at 11 a.m. In previous years, the celebration opened Friday at 5 p.m.
“Oktoberfest Zinzinnati is one of our most important traditions,” said Mayor John Cranley. “And it’s time we recognize it as the holiday it is!” Mayor Cranley, using his official powers of proclamation, has announced a city-wide half-day holiday beginning at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 20.
“People from all over the world come to enjoy the food, music, fun, and especially the beer, at Oktoberfest Zinzinnati,” said Lori Salzarulo, event manager for Oktoberfest Zinzinnati. “And now they have more time to wear dirndls, eat wurst, and drink beer!”
Festivities will begin with the Gemütlichkeit (Goodwill) Games, Friday, September 20 at 11 a.m. at the Main Stage at Second and Elm Streets. This annual event features local media personalities competing in stein hoisting and barrel rolling competitions. It will be followed at noon with opening ceremonies. Samuel Adams founder, Jim Koch, will tap the ceremonial first keg at the Main Stage.
“Oktoberfest in Munich is two weeks long,” said Salzarulo. “Maybe that’s what we should be working toward as well! Celebrate early this year, and let’s see how we can grow!”
