Moerlein Lager House has teamed up with Cat’s Eye Saloon in Athens, Ohio to brew an all Ohio hopped India Pale Lager for Ohio Brew Week, a 9-day beer festival in Athens that features 45+ Ohio breweries and more than 300 beers. The Cat’s Eye Ohio Hopped IPL will debut in Cincinnati on July 12 at 6:00PM with a special keg tapping at Moerlein Lager House.
This is the third year Moerlein and Cat’s Eye have collaborated on a special Ohio Brew Week beer. Greg Hardman, President & CEO of Christian Moerlein, is an alumnus of Ohio University and frequented Cat’s Eye Saloon both as a student and during post-grad visits as a keynote speaker at Ohio Brew Week. Sharing the same passion for OU, beer, and Ohio Brew Week, Hardman and Cat’s Eye Saloon’s proprietor, John Ellis, quickly became friends and developed the idea for a collaboration beer celebrating these passions.
For this year’s collaboration, Moerlein and Cat’s Eye kept things local and brewed an India Pale Lager featuring all organic hops from NEO Hops located near Lake Erie. The Cat’s Eye Ohio Hopped IPL features a mellow bitterness, light malt character with floral and grapefruit aroma and flavor. It is a crisp, citrus and refreshing brew that is perfect for hot summer days. Cat’s Eye Ohio Hopped IPL has 5.5% ABV and 55 IBUs.
The beer will be an exclusive draft brew featured at the Cat’s Eye Saloon in Athens during Ohio Brew Week from July 12-20 and in Cincinnati at the Christian Moerlein Brewing Co. Taproom and the Moerlein Lager House. All are encouraged to attend the Cat’s Eye Ohio Hopped IPL keg tapping on Friday, July 12 at 6:00pm at Moerlein Lager House. Zach Horn, President of the Greater Cincinnati Ohio University Alumni, will be the guest keg tapper for the event. Cat’s Eye Saloon is also releasing Cat’s Eye Ohio Hopped IPL on Friday, July 12.
