Dayton-native filmmaker to premiere new documentary at Cincy’s Esquire Theatre this Saturday, June 8

Brainiac: Transmissions After Zero directed by Dayton, Ohio native Eric Mahoney will have its Cincinnati premiere this Saturday, June 8 at the Esquire Theatre. The film itself, a 2019 SXSW Film Festival selection, is a documentary about Dayton-native 90’s band Brainiac, who’s lead singer passed away before their stardom could peak.

In the mid 1990’s the indie rock music scene in Dayton, Ohio was gaining international attention. Acts such as The Breeders and Guided by Voices came from this breeding ground of young, creative, musicians. Another such act was Brainiac, an innovative group led by front man Tim Taylor. Brainiac was opening for Beck and quickly catching more and more of the spotlight when Tim Taylor was tragically killed in an auto accident, putting everything to an abrupt, painful, and unfortunate stop. But, the musical genius of Tim Taylor lived on by influencing groups such as Nine Inch Nails, The Mars Volta, and The National. This film explores the band’s music, legacy, massive influence on pop culture and how people survive and cope with the loss of loved ones.

The Esquire Theatre will be showing Brainiac: Transmissions After Zero on Saturday June 8, 2019 @ 7PM (120 Minutes) Tickets are $15. The film will be followed by a live Skype Q&A with Director Eric Mahoney.
